The Voice UK – Matt Henry Blind Audition

This video clip is taken from the second series of singing talent show The Voice UK, which aired on BBC One in 2013. The clip is part of the contest’s first round known as “Blind Auditions” in which the four judges, Tom Jones, Will.i.am, Jessie J and Danny o’Donoghue, are facing away from the contestant and must judge them purely on their singing ability.

The featured Blind Audition sees Matt Henry performing Ray LaMontagne’s song Trouble, with a deep, soulful voice, reminiscent of Marvin Gaye.

Henry gets off to a good start with Jessie J immediately hovering over the button the judges must press in order to make their seats spin around to show their support, but she is beaten by Danny who presses his button within seconds of the performance starting, to the immense pleasure of the contestant’s friends and family.

Will.i.am is obviously interested, adopting a strange position in his judges chair, meanwhile Jessie, after checking with the audience, decides to press her button by sitting on it.

With two judges already having pledged their support, Danny attempts to persuade Tom Jones and Will.i.am to press their buttons, which the latter does, leaving Matt Henry with three out of the four judges team’s to choose from as he triumphantly finishes his audition.
