Lounging by the pool and taking a leisurely swim is often the part of a vacation that most people look forward to and consider before they go. While this family was enjoying their vacation at Elephant Sands in Botswana, a visitor spent their time in the pool, making it a vacation moment they will never forget.
Hearing a rustle in the bush, the family braced themselves for any creature that might come their way and, incredibly, out of the bush, a gentle giant climbed; The elephant. The huge creature walked casually to the edge of the pool and, after assessing the humans as safe to be near them, joined in the fun.
The wonderful creature lowered its trunk into the water and began to drink from the pond, while the family stood in the water, watching in awe. People stayed as still and calm as possible so as not to scare the beautiful creature and enjoy the moment as long as possible.
As soon as the elephant woke up, he looked at the humans as if recognizing them and thanking them for letting him drink from their pond. Then he turned immediately to head back out into the desert, waving his ears like a wave of farewell. I bet the family couldn’t believe their luck!
Visitors to the station have been told that sometimes the elephants come to drink from the ponds; The water is clean and chlorine free for this reason. Luckily, the family had their phones nearby so they could film the entire incredible encounter as it happened. It’s an absolutely amazing moment and I watched it with my mouth the whole time.
