Glenn Campbell will forever be remembered as one of country music’s biggest stars. Dozens of his songs made Billboard charts and won multiple Grammys and Awards during his lifetime. His daughter Ashley Campbell wrote her song “Remembering” to honor him.
The song was Ashley’s 2015 debut album and wasn’t originally meant to stand alone. It was featured in the 2015 documentary about Ashley’s father, Glenn Campbell: It Will Be Me. The song is an honest piece dealing with Glenn’s Alzheimer’s disease and is as wonderful as listening to it.
Ashley’s song conveys the deep feelings she felt while writing it, and she said in an interview with The Guardian that she originally had no intention of doing anything with it. either and that she had written it for herself. However, the song quickly became very popular on its own.
Ashley released a music video shortly after the documentary, showcasing some of her personal video moments. It’s a wonderful tribute to her father whom she holds dearest even after Glenn’s death in August 2018.
Ashley accompanied her father on a farewell tour after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She was there every step of the way to support him in his final years and it shows in his song and video. Ashley performed the song from the series Country’s Family Reunion Kickin Back saying to the audience during this performance,
She said, “I wrote this song… when I knew there would be a time when soon he wouldn’t recognize me, he wouldn’t know who I am.”
