The call went wide and 10,000 massive donors showed up for the test. Of this number, three people turn out to be perfectly compatible, which increases the young man’s chances of survival.

4855 lined up in the rain when Oscar headmistress Sarah Keating hosted an open day at Pitmaston Primary School in Worcester. Other donors came from as far away as Wales, Shropshire and Bath. Around 1,000 people traveled to Guildhall for testing and hundreds more went to the city’s university.

Olivia shared it on Oscar’s Hand in Hand Facebook page: “So happy to announce that Oscar finally got a compatible stem cell, not just one but three and will be undergoing a transplant very soon!!

What an emotional roller coaster it was a journey of endless heartbreak and awe, but…..wow!!!! What a relief and positivity it was to help Oscar get rid of cancer!!

It was so painful but we are so excited to have the opportunity to deal with the next stage of treatment!!!! “

I continued to thank everyone who helped find a stem cell donor for Oscar.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who signed up, supported and continued to spread the word to our beautiful boy and those in need of amazing bone marrow cells. We wouldn’t have did this without all of you!!!

I can’t tell you how great I am…all of us!!! In fact, I don’t think any news has made us so happy in our entire lives!!! “

Olivia ended the announcement on an optimistic note.

“We know this is the start of another difficult journey, but we will overcome this together and bring him home where he belongs, and live the life he totally deserves. Keep it all behind you, my love. “

Oscar with his parents, Olivia Saxelby and Jaime Lee
Olivia and Jamie – childhood sweethearts – had just finished decorating their new home when they received shocking news about their son’s health.

Their fears began when Olivia noticed that her son, who is usually active, had lost his appetite and had become lethargic.

“Normally he would run to run, to do damage, to be a little monkey. But all he wanted to do was rest on the sofa. When he opened his Christmas presents, he was really happy. But he lay on the couch all afternoon and I didn’t want to have dinner.”

“He played foam darts with his uncle, but when a sponge dart hit him in the face, a huge bruise immediately appeared,” she said.

Olivia’s mother, Sarah, was an NHS medical commissioner and her sister, Jocelyn, was a medical student. Both advised him to see Oscar’s doctor immediately as he feared he was anemic.
