Horses, like many other animals, learn largely by imitating. They are not going to be able to learn conceptually like humans, which is going to make their overall learning process highly dependent on observing other horses. The foal in this video seems to stumble around at first, as if he is unsure of what to do with himself.
However, his noble mother arrives on the scene and starts trotting around him, and he is able to copy her gait and pace perfectly. He trots with her, at which point she soon jumps over an entire fence, and he is able to imitate that when a few seconds ago he seemed nearly immobile. This video demonstrates a bond between a mother and baby very effectively.
