On August 18, 2021, family and friends gathered to say their final goodbyes to Lisa Marie Presley, who passed away on July 12, 2021. Her mother, Priscilla Presley, struggled to hold back tears during her emotional eulogy. Priscilla began by reading a poem written by Lisa Marie’s daughter, Riley Keough, called “Old Soul.”
The poem reflected on Lisa Marie’s life, from her birth in 1968 to her passing at the age of 53. Priscilla read the lines, “‘Childhood passes by, with a glimpse of her green eye, she then grew a family of her own. Then came her second child, leaving her with suspicion — could this be the angel that takes me home?'” As she continued reading, Priscilla became visibly emotional and struggled to hold back tears. “‘Now, she is home where she always belonged, but my heart is missing her love,’” she read.
Priscilla ended her eulogy with a heartfelt thank you to all who attended the service, saying, “Lisa, we all love you.” Lisa Marie was laid to rest at Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, alongside her son Benjamin, who tragically died by suicide in July 2020. Graceland’s Meditation Garden is also the final resting place of Elvis Presley, his parents, and his grandmother.
In addition to Priscilla’s emotional eulogy, Elvis’s close friend Jerry Schilling and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, also spoke at the service. Canadian singer Alanis Morissette performed her song “Rest,” which she wrote to raise awareness for mental health, while Axl Rose of Guns n’ Roses fame sang “November Rain.” Lisa Marie Presley may be gone, but her memory and music will continue to live on.
