Shadow the Napolitan Mastiff has given birth at home and will set an Australian record for giving birth to 21 litter puppies! She gave birth to the dog three hours at home, but he didn’t spend four hours at any other activity, so her owner took her to the Underwood Animal Emergency Service.

When they learned that she had more than 10 dogs left, she prepared for an emergency Cesarean. Shadow was going through a difficult time and the vets had to perform the life-saving oophorectomy and hysterectomy. Vets and nurses removed 18 more puppies, bringing the total to 21, and 18 of them eventually survived.

Shadow has recovered and is well now and is resting at home with her cubs. Four dogs shy of breaking the world record held by another small dog from Naples who gave birth to 24 puppies in 2004 came out.
