Talk about superpowers! Charlotte Hevilmere may only weigh 5’6 and 120 pounds, but the soft-spoken 19-year-old from Northern Virginia heroically lifted her father’s pickup truck to save him and her family from a dangerous fire.
Charlotte came to her rescue when her father, Eric Hevelmere, got into trouble while working on an old GMC truck in the garage of the family home. He had just removed one of the tires when the jack slipped and got stuck under it. He told NBC Washington, “As Jack slipped out, there was a strong, almost real smell of gasoline, and then, just then!”
He was struggling to escape when the garage caught fire, but he was stuck. she said the propane tanks in the garage ignited like “balls of fire” and he tried to disarm himself for 10 minutes before the door opened and Charlotte appeared barefoot.
Charlotte started to lift the truck and Eric described how he felt it going up and a few seconds later he came out from under it!
But Charlotte’s courage didn’t stop there. Realizing the truck’s gas tank was going to explode and threaten the family home with her grandmother and 3-month-old niece inside, Charlotte jumped into the driver’s seat and managed to shoot the three-wheeler just outside the house.
Thanks to her actions, her family was able to get out of the house and her father was safe. Charlotte suffered burns to her feet and hands and a back injury that prevented her from returning to the Air Force Academy, where she was training.
