His heroic act began when he drove to a home in Robertsville, Missouri to pick up a package. This scheduled stop seemed quite ordinary until he noticed two words written on the returned package.
A woman opened the door and handed the package to the driver. He didn’t know at the time that the woman’s husband was just outside the door, holding her with a pistol to make sure she obeyed.
James Tyler Jordan, 33, thought he was totally in control when he asked his wife to act normal in front of the UPS driver. Fortunately, she had a clever plan.
I managed to quickly write “Call 911” on the package before handing it to the driver. If the driver didn’t pay attention to the writing on the package, he easily missed a desperate call for help.
The driver called the police and the rapid response team was sent home. Jordan was arrested and taken into custody.
Jordan’s wife has shared the heartbreaking details of being held hostage with their 3-year-old child for almost 15 hours. The young child was locked in a room without food or water during this time.
The woman explained that she was not allowed to use the phone or leave their home. She tried to escape, but Jordan dragged her home by her hair.
Loneliness was only the beginning of a terrifying ordeal. He also physically and sexually assaulted her.
She spent most of the 15 hour period with a gun to her head as her life was constantly threatened. The UPS driver seemed to be his only chance for human contact.
