In a recent interview with The Sun, a woman named Cooke shared her experience growing up with excess facial hair. She explained that during her childhood, women with facial hair were stigmatized, and even professionals at salons would tell her that girls aren’t supposed to have facial hair. This made her feel uncomfortable and insecure about her appearance, especially since she was still learning how to shave her legs at the time.

For the next ten years, Cooke fell into a shame spiral where she tried to hide her face in photos and attended waxing sessions every week. She even had to shave her face twice a day while working in retail to hide her visible facial hair. However, Cooke eventually decided to change her mindset and take her confidence back into her own hands. She decided to embrace her facial hair and let it grow.

Initially, growing out her beard was uncomfortable, and she had anxiety about people staring at her. But she persisted and decided not to care about others’ opinions. Now, she works as a bearded lady and is happy with herself. Cooke’s family and friends have been supportive throughout her journey of self-acceptance and even bought her a sign that reads, “Don’t f*** with the bearded lady,” which she loves.

Cooke’s story highlights the harmful effects of societal beauty standards and the importance of self-love and acceptance. Her journey serves as an inspiration to others who may be struggling with insecurities about their appearance. Ultimately, it’s up to each individual to decide what makes them happy and confident, regardless of what others may think.
