Usually, the Granbury Pirates would play the anthem before the team entered the field. On this occasion, the football match was postponed. The band were scheduled to compete on the same day the match was postponed, causing the band to miss the match and prevent the record-breaking performance of the anthem.
Members of the Texas High School football team performed their version of the national anthem. In the absence of their own band, the band felt the need to preserve their traditions. Make sure the crowd sees the supporting show.
According to the Western Journal, instead of starting a game without the traditional song, the Pirates stood on the field, handed out hearts and performed their own version of Francis Scott Key’s beautiful song. They handed over hearts, eyes on the flag, sang the song, urging the crowd to accompany them.
Unfortunately, the Pirates lost to their opponent by one point. However, the example they set and the leadership they demonstrated will be remembered long after the result has faded from the school’s collective memory.
Instead of remembering who got away, players and fans will remember the day the football team took the initiative to honor its traditions.
