Henry is an 8-year-old golden retriever who was abandoned in Newport Beach, Southern California. When rescuers found Henry, they sadly realized that the dog had a 42-pound tumor growing on its underside. The tumor had grown so large that the poor dog had trouble walking.
Fortunately, help was on the way. Valerie Schomberg, Animal Control Supervisor, worked hard to secure a $500 grant to pay for Henry’s surgery. Dr. Carla Nichols confirmed to CBS that the tumor made it difficult for Henry to walk because his right front leg could not bear the weight of the tumor.
Henry underwent surgery to remove the tumor just five days after it was discovered deserted. As for her previous owner, she was sentenced to three years in prison according to the Los Angeles Times, plus a fine and hours of community service. She pleaded guilty to failing to care for an abandoned animal and animal. Unfortunately, even after the operation, poor Henry later died of a variety of medical problems.
Animal control officers want to remind pet owners that it is illegal to abandon their pets. It is especially sad when pets are left alone when they are sick or ill.
